Description

Course Overview

This course focuses on how STEAM instruction can be implemented using everyday materials and accessible classroom structures. Participants examine how problem-solving, design thinking, and inquiry can be integrated into existing curriculum without the need for specialized equipment or dedicated lab spaces.

Through guided readings, videos, and applied activities, participants will analyze how design cycles support student learning, how creative constraints can promote innovation, and how hands-on tasks can be structured to align with academic standards. Emphasis is placed on developing learning experiences that encourage exploration, iteration, and real-world application.

The course also explores how creativity and design can support student understanding across content areas. Participants will develop practical strategies for implementing STEAM instruction in ways that are sustainable, engaging, and aligned to instructional goals.

This course is appropriate for both general education and special education teachers of students in grades K–12 and is worth 45 in-service hours (3 semester credits/units).
